Chosen non-profit organization

Hornsea Community Garden  Hornsea Community Garden is a project which supports and connects with the people of Hornsea in a caring and non-threatening environment whilst taking a positive approach to caring for the environment and improving biodiversity. The garden will be a community hub including seating areas, wilder natural area, orchard and allotment along with some Christianity related areas seeing as it is in the parish church gardens. These spaces will enable people to be actively involved in gardening and to connect with nature, which are beneficial to improving mental and physical health.  These are achieved by having a strong planning group with representatives from each of Hornsea’s church congregations. Roles within the group involve planning, connecting with the community, organising activities and organising worship events. Regular planned community events are organised to attract people to activities such as fun days, summer picnics, coffee mornings, kids/youth nature and gardening, music performances, arts and crafts, etc. They also connect with local groups and organisations such as schools, special needs groups, Men In Sheds, craft groups, HUGs, food bank, etc.  Target Audience The main target audience for Hornsea Community Garden is anyone who is interested in being around nature and building a community within it. This can be families wanting a day out and attending a fun day, youth looking to be outside more and doing something creative, to adults attending coffee mornings and meeting new people who also attend.  Initial Ideas Seeing as the organisation does not already have a website it will need to be built from scratch. The colour scheme across the site will be consistent with their already existing logos which is also used on many posters for previous events. It would be a hub for people interested in finding out more on the project but also with getting involved in activities and events that are hosted. When viewing Oshi’s website, the main aspects that I’ve found inspiration in are their calendar, about the team, and projects pages as these could be adapted to fit into the vision I have for the Community Garden site. Allowing the users of the site to connect with the organisation is important and these 3 features would be the main ways to do that.   Having a calendar that shows all upcoming events will allow users to get involved with what’s going on, which is one of the main values of the garden, building a community.   About The Team will allow users to build a connection with the people who have built this organisation, which is crucial to building trust between both.   A projects page will give the ability for users to see what impact the organisation has already had on the community and give them an idea of what events could possibly be seen in the future.
