Likes The main inspiration for the 2 column design used throughout many of the pages is from Victorious Festival’s site. It consists of a top boarder with an extra feature, in this case quotes from artists, paired with one image and a relating section of text. Its simple and easy to navigate, with not too much detail or a lack of interest to draw the viewer in, such as the image. It keeps information cleanly laid out and also gives a balanced amount of images and text, giving the viewer a break from constant reading. Colour inspiration came from a mix of 2 colour palettes, Garden Party and Herbs in the Garden. Using a mix of the light pink and an adaptation of the cream-ish colour from Garden Party, paired with similar greens of Herbs in the Garden, a vibrant colour scheme was created, mixing the themes of party and plants to relate to the theme of being music in a garden. For the Travel/Accommodation page, a map of the area similar to on Nation Center for Early Music’s site would be used. Allowing the viewer to easily see the surrounding area helps to plan travel on and around the day of attendance. Dislikes On Victorious Festival’s information page, it seems extremely bland, boring and basic. Everything on first glance is categorised under drop down tabs. Not only does this make it uninteresting when first going to the page, but it also wastes time as the viewer has to read down every tab to find what they need. This is inconvenient as the categories are not in alphabetical order either, they seem to be in a random order. Viewers could become stressed by this lack of detail and organisation, which is why I’ve avoided a basic layout such as this. Colour schemes such as “Japanese Garden” and “Green Garden” did not work with my vision for the overall scheme. This is because they were not vibrant enough along with the colours not varying enough from each other, especially in “Green Garden”. Although I’ve used a similar cream to the ones used in Japanese Garden, the black and red are still vastly different to the desired scheme I was going for. Unlike Victorious Festival’s information page, Edinburgh International Festival’s About Us page has too much plain text. Although there is a header image, the majority of the page is unbroken large bodies of plain text with no colours or imagery. This bland approach would not appeal to most viewers, especially with a declining attention span nowadays. A slightly tinted background could make this page even slightly more interesting, but the black text on white background is bland and uninteresting.
